Davinder Sandhu, Co-founder and Chairman, Primus Partners, and Nikhil Dhaka, Vice President, Primus Partners, shared their views that the rapid rise in vehicle numbers in India, fueled by urbanization and economic growth, significantly contributes to environmental pollution and climate change. The government’s end-of-life policies for vehicles may not be the most effective response; retrofitting internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs) presents a more sustainable solution. This cost-effective approach reduces emissions and upgrades existing vehicles while conserving resources.
To support this transition, it is crucial to address tax disparities that disadvantage retrofitting. Proposed measures include implementing a balanced GST rate for retrofit kits and initiating pilot projects to test EV retrofitting in urban areas. By promoting retrofitting alongside the scrappage of old vehicles, India can enhance the sustainability of its transport sector while generating significant employment and economic growth.Read Now!
